PB1A - letter to the editor

Here is the letter to the editor about alcohol regulation that I found on Internet
alcohol's dangers undersold to youth
post- prohibition, alcohol regulation still makes sense
alcohol awareness campaign

Through these letters, I found some conventions about letter to the editor which answer the question "what makes the thing the thing?".
Conventions of letter to the editor:
1. Attitude towards the opinion of the editor ; cons and pros of the editors's opinion
2. Address the name of writer on the bottom of the letter
3. give examples to support the writer's opinion and usually use real experience or personal thoughts.
4. writers always use the view if first person

I think that the third convention is the most consequential one because an example can make the opinion more credible and well-founded. also, readers can be able to empathise with them.

 Exigence:
- contrast the harm of marijuana with that of alcohol to the youth.
point that the editor did't pay attention to the harm of alcohol

- alcohol is very dangerous to body health and there must be serious law to control alcohol-the situation that lots of teenagers buy alcohols illegally and it should be control

writer:
MORGAN FOX
Washington

Elyse R. Grossman, North Bethesda The writer, a public-health lawyer, co-wrote an amicus curiae brief submitted in this case on behalf of the U.S. Alcohol Policy Alliance.
Jaelyn Quisel, Meridian

primary audience:
-administration staff of alcohol reputation ; parents
-government and all people in the country
-alcohol seller and teenager

secondary audience:
-the reader of the editor
-families and parents
-parents and government

writer's purpose:
to show that alcohol is much more dangerous then marijuana to the youth.
-show that alcohol can lead to death and the we should decrease drinking alcohol
make people to pay attention to not selling teenagers alcohol

background information:
the editor shows that marijuana is very dangerous
there are lots of datas shows that alcohol can lead people ill and dead
Providing alcohol to minors or allowing minors to drink under your supervision can be punishable with up to $1,000

The writers all give their opinions and use examples and data to prove their idea. Then they make people pay attention to the issue trying to solve some social problems.
