WP2 draft

Comment 1: @  Doreen Dodgen-Magee) As a student who spend lots of time everyday sitting in front of a laptop or holding a cell phone, I think this opinion is serious and practical. And what I found in my real life is that over use of tech may cause mental illness and stress. From Aswathy Das’s analyze about the relationship between mental illness and technology addiction, I understand that the occurrence of internet addiction is 1.6 fold higher on people who is anxiety and stressful. This kind of addiction is untouchable and stealthily exist in daily life. The harm that such addiction brings to us is not only physical but also psychological. Especially we teenagers should pay more attention to our mental health and the control of Internet addiction. I think their analyze has the same view about the technology addiction.  This is a very important topic for me, because I am deeply dependent on the Internet. I didn't realize the seriousness of the problem until I lost my...

WP2 Part1+2

Part 1   https://www.philly.com/opinion/commentary/philadelphia-board-education-schools-budget-funding-20190401.html 1. The school district has between 4 and 8 times the amount of money listed on he budget in bank accounts, investments, and enterprise activity. That money is listed in their Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) cafr1 (dot) com the second set of books government entities are allowed to keep. There is so much money that a fund could be set up to retire school taxed for all time. Go to taxretirement (dot) com/ for more info.   This should be very interesting to actuaries and mathematicians. https://www.philly.com/opinion/cartoons/school-metal-detectors-philadelphia-20190331.html 2. It took the United States government’s Department of Justice an entire study dedicated to gun use and criminals to figure out what logical human beings have already understood for decades. The result of their own study found that gun control...

PB1B _ LTE

The public argument I chose for WP1 is animal rights and I want to encourage people to respect the life of animal and banned the inhumane practice to any of them. I saw many negative news about animal test and animal mistreatment even someone try to take advantage of other people's love for pets to earn improper money. These action should be prohibited immediately. "Moves" in three example: 1. giving real life example to touch with readers and prove the opinion effectively to audience 2. Many data and evidence is showed on the LTE which helps increase the credibility. 3. uncompromising word choice In three examples I found in PB1A, I think the second  is the best one. First, the writer use evidence such as   "Excessive alcohol consumption is the  third-leading preventable cause of death  and is responsible for  approximately 88,000 deaths  (including  4,300 deaths  among underage youths) annually in the United States."...

PB1A - letter to the editor

Here is the letter to the editor about alcohol regulation that I found on Internet alcohol's dangers undersold to youth post- prohibition, alcohol regulation still makes sense alcohol awareness campaign Through these letters, I found some conventions about letter to the editor which answer the question "what makes the thing the thing?". Conventions of letter to the editor: 1. Attitude towards the opinion of the editor ; cons and pros of the editors's opinion 2. Address the name of writer on the bottom of the letter 3. give examples to support the writer's opinion and usually use real experience or personal thoughts. 4. writers always use the view if first person  I think that the third convention is the most  consequential one because an example can make the opinion more credible and well-founded. also, readers can be able to empathise with them.   Exigence: - contrast the harm of marijuana with that of alcohol to the youth. point that the edi...
